In June of 2020, the COVID pandemic threatened to put a halt to the sponsoring of wishes for our wish kids with critical illnesses. By canceling several annual fundraisers and taking away other money-raising efforts, Make-A-Wish reached out to their volunteers to help raise money. Cans for Wishes was then born, out of necessity. COVID may have shut down the world, but our wish kids still needed to experience the joy and excitement a wish brings into their lives.
We started by recycling aluminum cans, and eventually grew to accepting more metal items, including scrap metal, appliances, vehicles, and more. We then sponsored our entire first wish as a group, and the excitement spread.
In the last three and a half years, Cans for Wishes has raised over $171,000 and has sponsored over 35 wishes for children in Erie and Crawford Counties!!! With continued support from generous area businesses and dedicated volunteers, we will continue to grow, sponsoring more wishes as the need arises.
